Prior to attending university, I worked as a studio assistant in an in-house graphic design studio, where I developed key skills in artwork and layout using Adobe InDesign. During my first year at university, I was employed by Jonny Hoskins of AUB Productions to create artwork for posters, flyers, social media assets, digital billboards, and programmes.
The programme layout was designed by my course leader, Will Hargreaves, with the aim of democratising the programme and highlighting the collaborative effort behind each production. It showcased the contributions of designers, makers, publicity teams, and stage management, emphasising how all roles are interconnected.
The artwork for the Spring–Summer Season was created by the talented Dora Varos, further enhancing the visual identity of the productions.
It was an incredibly proud to stand outside the Palace Court Theatre and see my posters on display, visible for the whole of Bournemouth to appreciate.
For the Ballad of Maria Marten, I also artworked a newspaper that was used as a prop during the play for the actors to look at.
In my second year, I continued designing flyers and programmes, and it was a true honour to see them being distributed across Bournemouth. I particularly valued the opportunity to engage with local audience members before performances, discussing the programmes I had carefully artworked and sharing in the excitement of the shows.
In my third year, I took on the role of costume designer for a production, which presented the challenge of balancing my time between costume design, artwork responsibilities, and training a first-year student in graphic design to take over my role after graduation. It was also incredibly exciting to see my name officially included in one of the designer credits, marking a personal milestone in my creative journey.
